LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

Your MLD treatment starts with understanding you — and why you’re here.

We take the time to understand your health history, what you’re experiencing, any areas of swelling or concern, and factors such as previous surgery or medical treatment that may influence your care.

From there, we assess how your body presents on the day and tailor your treatment accordingly. Using gentle, rhythmic and specifically directed techniques, MLD works with the lymphatic system to encourage fluid movement and support natural drainage pathways.

A gentle treatment. A considered process.

The Natural Symphony MLD Approach

We Start With Understanding

Your treatment begins with your health history, why you’re seeking MLD, areas of swelling or concern, previous surgery or medical treatment, and how you’re feeling on the day. This helps us determine what is appropriate, what requires caution, and whether medical clearance may be needed.

We Assess & Measure

Where appropriate, we take selected measurements before treatment to establish a baseline. Alongside what we see, feel and what you report, this helps us observe changes in circumference, tissue congestion and fluid distribution rather than simply assuming where change has occurred.

We Plan the Pathway

MLD is not simply about massaging the area that feels swollen. Treatment is planned around the lymphatic system and the pathways available to your body, using gentle, rhythmic and specifically directed techniques to support movement toward appropriate drainage regions.

We Observe & Adapt

After treatment, we look at how your body has responded. Selected measurements may be repeated and we consider changes in tissue feel, heaviness, comfort and swelling. What we learn helps guide future treatment, aftercare and, where appropriate, collaboration with your healthcare team.

Why Our Approach is Different?

At Natural Symphony, Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not treated as a standard sequence performed the same way for every person. We take time to understand why you’re seeking treatment, your relevant health history, how your body presents on the day, and what may influence lymphatic flow before deciding how to proceed.

Our approach combines observation, appropriate measurement, thoughtful treatment planning and reassessment of your response. We consider the broader lymphatic system rather than focusing only on the area where swelling or heaviness is noticed.

Safety is also a central part of the process. We screen for contraindications and precautions, and where your medical history indicates it, we may request clearance or guidance from your treating healthcare professional before proceeding.

Most importantly, we recognise that every body and every reason for seeking Manual Lymphatic Drainage is different — so your treatment should be too.

Our focus at Natural Symphony is

 • Individualised, Not Routine  • Measured & Observed  • Safety-Led   • Whole-System Focused

Who Can Benefit From Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage may be helpful for people experiencing lymphatic swelling, fluid congestion or changes to normal lymphatic drainage. It is commonly used as part of lymphoedema management and may be recommended following some surgeries or medical treatments where lymphatic pathways have been affected.

Lymphoedema & Ongoing Swelling

For people managing diagnosed lymphoedema or fluid build-up associated with altered lymphatic drainage. MLD can form one part of a broader management plan that may also include compression, movement, exercise and skin care.

After Surgery or Medical Treatment

Some people may benefit from MLD when lymphatic drainage has been affected by surgery or medical treatment, including procedures involving lymph nodes. Timing and suitability depend on the procedure and individual health history, and medical clearance may be required.

Feelings of Heaviness & Fluid Congestion

For appropriate clients experiencing swelling, heaviness or tissue congestion associated with lymphatic fluid accumulation, the gentle techniques of MLD are designed to encourage fluid toward functioning drainage pathways.

Those Requiring Gentle, Targeted Care

MLD uses light, rhythmic skin movements rather than deep muscular pressure, making it a very different treatment from remedial massage. Treatment is tailored according to the individual presentation and the lymphatic pathways available.

Not sure if Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is right for you?

Not all swelling should be treated with lymphatic drainage. Certain conditions—including active infection, suspected or confirmed blood clots and some heart conditions—may mean MLD should not be performed. Depending on your health history, we may ask for clearance from your doctor or treating specialist before proceeding.
